NAVA's scholarly journal, RAVEN, has produced a special double issue as Volume 9/10, American City Flags, covering the years 2002 and 2003.  This milestone vexillological work contains 150 articles dedicated to descriptions and histories of municipal flags of the United States.  The cities represented include the largest 100 cities in the country, at least two cities per state, and all state capitals.
Former NAVA president John Purcell led the team of vexillologists compiling the information. His fellow researchers include Jim Croft, former NAVA News editor; and Rich Monahan, NAVA's current secretary. Dave Martucci, NAVA president, and Peter Orenski, occasional art editor for Raven, prepared the artwork.

This Raven issue parallels the landmark double issue of 1996-1997, Raven 3/4 Flags of the Native Peoples of the United States, which won the coveted Vexillon award from the International Federation of Vexillological Associations.  A planned volume, American City Flags, Part 2, will cover Canadian cities.
