The view below, looking north from the hotel, shows the Legislative Plaza in front of the War Memorial Building, and the Tennessee State Capitol.
Just to the right of the Legislative Plaza is the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in the James K. Polk building. The underground levels of that building house the main exhibits and storage facilities of the Tennessee State Museum, another of our tour sites for NAVA 39.
High on the list of tours, just a 15 minute shuttle ride south of the conference hotel, is the Nashville City Cemetery. Among the "residents" of the cemetery is Captain William Driver, of Old Glory fame. Our NAVA 39 group photo will be made at Captain Driver's grave, with a full-scale reproduction of Old Glory as the backdrop.
Below is a photo of the replica of Old Glory, flanked by the flags of Pitcairn Island, with which Captain Driver had an important connection, and the Rock City Guards, the Confederate infantry battalion from Nashville, in which Captain Driver's son, George, fought and died.
At the end of the convention, we will auction Old Glory to the help cover costs of the convention.
Within walking distance of the conference hotel you can enjoy a Broadway show, attend a NFL or NHL event, dine at fine restaurants, or enjoy a night on historic 2nd Avenue, Printers Alley, or Broadway. The photo, above, shows 2nd Avenue (also known as Market Street), while below is a view of Broadway. . .
. . . and of course, there is a flag store on Broadway.
Other sites of interest downtown are:
The Ryman Auditorium, former and occasional home of the Grand Ole Opry;
The Frist Center for the Visual Arts;
Fort Nashboro; and
The Country Music Hall of Fame.
