2 AUGUST 1999 - Final Presentations and the Close of the
Meeting

Whitney Smith of Massachusetts, USA, making his presentation on
Flag Abuse.

Phillipe Rault of Brittany, introducing Armand DuPayrat.

Robert Watt, Chief Herald of Canada delivering the keynote
address at the final luncheon on the creation of the flag and
arms of Nunavut.

Elaine Peters of Australia receiving a Maple Leaf from the
Canadian Flag Association, presented by Kevin Harrington.

Scott Guenter of California, USA, receiving an Arizona Flag for
the best paper dealing with Asian studies.

John Purcell of Ohio, USA, receiving the Whitney Award.
Mason Kaye was awarded the William Driver Award for Best Paper
presented at the meeting but he was not present to receive it in
person. The paper's title is "Tribar Flags--A
Survey and Analysis."

Charles "Kin" Spain receiving a plaque for his service
to NAVA.

Presentation of the Past President's Standard to Charles Spain (a
year late).

Jamie Webb auctioning off the large Congress Flag. It sold for
CDN$110 to an Australian bidder.

Elanor Fern, the daughter of the late William Crampton, receiving
the plaque naming her father as a Laureate of the Federation.
Also named was Ottfried Neubecker.

Bruce Berry of South Africa accepting the award on behalf of
himself and Theo Stylianides from the International Federation of
Flag Makers for the most imaginative paper.

John Purcell receiving the Vexillon from Ralph Bartlett of the
Australian Society for the production of the Native Flags of the
US. John is chair of the Raven Editorial Board. The plaque will
be presented by NAVA to Don Healy, the author of the work.

FIAV President Michel Lupant officially closes the 18th
International Congress of Vexillology.

The FIAV Secretary General for Congresses Flag being passed from
Bruce Berry of South Africa to Graham Bartram of the UK.

The FIAV Flag being passed to the organizers of the next
Congress. See you in York, England in 2001!
